I am very grateful for the many reviews my book has received I thought you might like to read excerpts from some of them.
“Several previous genealogies of the family have been published, but all are superseded by this excellent new family history by Maria (“Ree”) Hopper. She has compiled the first six American generation (with the children of the sixth). adding several pages of unidentified 17th and 18th century Hoppers who may belong to this family. Her genealogy reflects good, sold research, the results present in a standard format with extensive (in text) citations, many of the sources also transcribed in full in the text or appendices. Each daughter is given her own entry, and while their children are not continued there is still a considerable amount of valuable data here on surnames other than Hopper. . . In addition to being an impressive genealogy, this is a very attractive publication, thoughtfully laid out and appropriately illustrated. It is a very important and welcome contribution to New Netherland, New York, and New Jersey family history. [See New York Genealogical and Biographical Record - Vol. 136 No. 4 (October 2004), p. 312, for the complete review.]
The family of Andries Willemszen Hoppen(n) and his wife, Geertje Hendricks, first settled in New Amsterdam, New York, with future generations migrating into Bergen County, New Jersey This fine publication traces the family through the first six generations, and includes wonderful photographs, copies of original documents, transcriptions of church records, maps and watercolors. . . . This publication is a must for anyone with connections to this family.“ [See the “Genealogical Society of New Jersey Newsletter,” Vol. 13, No. 2 (Fall 2005), p.38 for the complete review.]
“Mrs. Hopper has researched the Hopper family for many years and has done an outstanding job by assembling the data into a truly reliable and understandable publication. . . . Since the publication covers only the first six generations, Mrs. Hopper plans to publish a second volume devoted to additional generations in a few years. . . . Mrs. Hopper had considerable amount of research done in The Netherlands by Pieter Nouwt, a Dutch genealogist. . . . I recommend this genealogy of this well-known Dutch colonial family.” [See de Halve Maen, Journal of the Holland Society of New York - Vol. LXXCIII No. 3 (Fall 2005), p. 58 for the complete review.]
The first thing that catches the eye is ....The first thing that catches the eye is the attractive water color painting on the cover by Robert S. Todd. But then you open to begin the reading, and you immediately realize that the compiler did a truly fantastic job! . . . The use of the book is made easy with the addition of Abbreviations and Terms used, as well as the Gazetteer. Definitely an asset! I encourage anyone who is beginning to think about doing a family book to take a look at this one for ideas. This book is neatly done, easy to use and clearly, ‘source cited.’
