Ree Hopper will discuss her recently revised first volume and newly published second volume of the genealogy of the Hopper family through eight generations. Although Andries Hoppe(n) was only in New Amsterdam for seven years, his family settled in Bergen County in 1660 and has since spread throughout the country. She will discuss some of her favorite Hoppers: Andrew Hopper and Maria Larue, hosts to George Washington; Capt. Jonathan Hopper, murdered by Tories; Jasper Hopper, the first known Hopper portrait, Edward Hopper, the artist; and Admiral Grace Hopper. She will also discuss the Ridgewood veterinarians, kissing cousins, a Hopper bigamist, and others. The books are available at Amazon.com in paperback, hardcover, and as an e-book. A few books will also be available on the 15th. Maria Jean “Ree” Pratt Hopper is a professional genealogist, retired teacher, and a longtime member of the GSBC. Bonus : The cover paintings of “New Amsterdam” and a ”Bergen County Farm” and other paintings by the artist Robert S. Todd will also be on display.
